Research Themes

Regenerative Medicine

The Huch Lab: Studies Primary Liver Cancer and Pancreatic cancer, stem cells and tissue regeneration, incorporating 'organoid' technology.

The Vallier Lab: Primarily studies embryonic development in vitro to produce liver and pancreatic cells with the interest in cellular therapies of liver failure and diabetes.

The Laurenti lab: focuses on the study of haemapoietic stem cells (HSC) and progenitor cells with in vitro and in vivo single cell assays, transcriptomics and bioinformatics.

Cancer Research

Jones Group: studies the alteration of normal cell behaviour through mutations in the early stages of cancer evolution

The fitzgerald lab: focuses on early detection and treatment of gastro-oesophageal cancers, aiming to understand the underlying mechanisms, improve upon diagnostic tools and molecular characterisation of oesophageal cancers.

The Huch Lab: Primary Liver Cancer and Pancreatic cancer organoid technology.

Saeb-Parsy Lab: Safety and efficacy of cancer immunotherapies in humanised mouse models.

Transplantation Research:

Saeb-Parsy Lab & Murphy Lab: Ischaemia-reperfusion injury in transplantation

Pettigrew Lab: Is primarily focused on research covering transplant rejection and immune homeostasis

The Bradley lab: is currently in the early stages of modelling human glomerulosclerosis in vitro.

Immunology:

Saeb-Parsy Lab: Currently has projects surrounding the function and immunogenicity of transplanted cellular therapies &  the safety and efficacy of cancer immunotherapies in humanised mouse models.

Kosmoliaptsis Lab: Primarily studies histocompatibility and Immunogenetics.

Pettigrew Lab: Transplant rejection and immune homeostasis

Clatworthy Lab:  Is focused on Immunoregulation, Immune cell metabolism in kidney/gut.

Jones Lab: Human autoimmunity in relation to recovery during T-cell Lymphopenia.

Genomics:

Human Cell Atlas: aims to create a comprehensive reference maps of all human cells that can be used to define the cellular basis of health and disease

Teichman Group: research focuses on protein structure evolution, higher order protein structure and protein folding. Sarah Teichmen’s research uses genomic approaches to study global regulation of gene expression.

Martincorena Group: research focuses on the accumulation of somatic mutations throughout life.

Diabetes and Obesity:

The Gribble Lab & The Reimann Lab: are currently collaborating to research how gut hormones are released and their actions on target tissues.

Saeb-Parsy Lab: Cryopreservation of multi-cellular aggregates and bioengineered tissues.

The CBTM serves to support multidisciplinary and collaborative research projects, covering a wide range of research themes, including regenerative medicine, cancer research, immunology and transplantation research.
