The MRC Cancer Unit conducts research aiming to improve early detection of cancer, cancer treatments, intervention and prevention. The Cancer Unit comprises of ten faculty research programmes with over 130 staff in a wide range of disciplines. The CBTM is currently working with the Fitzgerald Lab, who’s work focuses on early detection and treatment of Oesophageal cancers.

The Fitzgerald Lab (Gastro-Oesophageal Cancers)

The fitzgerald lab focuses on early detection and treatment of gastro-oesophageal cancers, aiming to understand the underlying mechanisms, improve upon diagnostic tools and improve upon molecular characterisation of oesophageal cancers. The Fitzgerald lab is currently receiving tissue from the CBTM for the study of the Gastro-Oesophageal junction as a site of Barrett’s Oesophagus origin.
